New Throwback R&B
by
Maybe it’s just the music that I’ve stumbled across lately. Perhaps I’m just in the mood. Whatever it may be, I’m a sucker for these throwback/vintage/classic R&B artists who seem to be coming out of the woodwork these days. It might’ve started with the success of Amy Winehouse, leading to Duffy – and even possibly Adele. But the old-school R&B sounds from the late 60s to early 70s is definitely appearing more in modern artists, and I dig it. The classic sound with soulful voices, upbeat music, solid drums and bass, and killer horns.
Here’s a handful of albums you should definitely check out:
The Heavy – “The House That Dirt Built”
Kings Go Forth – “The Outsiders are Back”
Raphael Saadiq – “The Way I See It”
Mayer Hawthorne “A Strange Arrangement”
