If you open finder, and go to View/Show Path Bar, you can find and drag to the sidebar all the folders you want

Updating Parallels should not upset Quicken as long as you are able to run the same Windows operating system. The emulation is the same, it's just that Parallels itself needs to be compatible with Lion.

Ferd,I use Parallels Desktop with my PC vriseon of Quicken only because I have been using the 2009 vriseon of Quicken and have been very spoiled by bill pay, auto balancing of register when downloading from my bank etc.. Will this effect me? Apple store told me I had to convert to the new vriseon of Parallels and it would not effect my Quicken at all. very worried!!

Since you have authorized access to that user, why not just login to it and manage the files that way? Then the Finder < Go method would work just fine.

Another other option would be to look for a Terminal command that shows all hidden files. And I guess a third option would be to use the Finder < Go to Folder option and type in the specific path to that external drive and down to the user's library.

How can you see a library file that is on an external HDD in another user's library (to which you have access of course)? The option+Go trick only works on the local user folder...

Congrats on your first Mac! I will say, as a new Mac user, forget the Library folder exists - you can do damage in there if you're not careful!
